Week 11 and Listening to the Heartbeat

Yesterday we started week 11. I'm feeling great - I've been so lucky to have escaped morning sickness, except a tiny bit of nausea here and there. From what we can tell, Baby Jordan is feeling great as well. We listened to its heartbeat, which was the coolest thing. It was almost like the doctor set up surround sound speakers - I could hear the heartbeat surrounding me. Its heart was pumping at 170 beats a minute, which is GREAT (the normal range is 120-180). That's about twice as fast as my heart was beating. It was neat listening to both our heartbeats at once.

We go back in a month for a normal check up, and then two weeks later we'll have the ultrasound. That's when we get to see the baby as its developed, and then we'll also find out the gender. I don't know what makes me more excited - being able to replace "it" with "him or her", or picking out clothes and furniture for the nursery! I'm also ready to start thinking about names. Ah, there are so many great times to come!

And now for the update on our baby, per babycenter.com - here's what's going on in week 11:

Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden. She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming
